Highway meat has been around since 1959 servicing the community with all their meat requirements. Dennis Rei took it to the next level in the late 1980's with regards to customer service, quality meat and 'regte egte' Boerewors' which became everyone's favorite. From the local braai to the national cricket team in India captained by Hansie Cronje, Dennis 'bekende Boerewors' was enjoyed by all carrying on a South African tradition.
After 23 years of service to the community be it selling meat or sponsoring local schools and churches. Dennis decided to retire. The business was sold to family members of which 2 had worked in the business for many years. They learnt from Dennis how to make each customer feel special and ensure their meat requirements are met. What did the change in management mean? A collaboration between Highway Meat and Meatco.
A dynamic company that is constantly evolving, MEATCO was born from humble beginnings as a retail butchery. Since it's inception, the company has grown into a state of the art deboning plant and retail outlet aimed at offering the highest quality meat at the most affordable price. As a family run enterprise, MEATCO specialises in deboning meat carcasses providing superior meat processing services to a wide array of customers in a variety of industries. In addition, our factory shop supplies a variety of fresh and frozen ready to use pre-packs to the general public.

In line with our drive for consistently superior quality, MEATCO practices HACCP (Hazardous Analysis of Critical Control Points) procedures. This ensures that the highest hygiene standards are utilised in the production of our meat. Furthermore, the company has received ZA certification from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries as an approved exporter of beef products.

Established in 1995 as a deboning plant the business grew exponentially. This led to a state of the art deboning plant being set up in 2000 with a through put of 50 tons a week. Meatco is HACCP approved, ensuring high standards of hygiene and food safety. Not only did it mean Highway Meat would now be able to offer the most competitive prices, but also exceptionally high standards with regards to hygiene and meat safety.
